Black Balling – A Black Panther Documentary

13675The Black Panther Party for Self Defense worked its way up to the top of the COINTELPRO Program headed by J. Edgar Hoover formally of the FBI. The mass media played a major role in the way that the Black Panther Party was covered in the media. The media’s role in the popularity, fear and condemnation of the Black Panther Party helped bring the organization into the national public sphere – it can also be argued that they helped bring the organization down.

President Barack Obama’s first 100 Days

ff_obama_f

President Barack Obama celebrated his first 100 days by doing what he does best – working. During his press conference, the president did a good job at fielding questions on the rest of his run as the first Black president of the United States of America. Here is a clip from audio commentary that was done earlier today. Click Here

President Obama Cares about the Earth

untitled1He’s our president, and not only does he care about the economy, he cares about the Earth.

Today is Earth Day, and the president gave the occasion its due respect – as he should.

Spending the day in Iowa which was a prominent location during his campaign, the president toured a wind-energy plant in Newton, Iowa.

The fine line, of course; is not between saving the economy and saving the planet, as president Obama said during his 35 minute speech. The New York Times quotes the president as saying, “The choice we face is between prosperity and decline. We can remain the world’s leading importer of oil, or we can become the world’s leading exporter of clean energy.”

Newton is one of the cities struck heavily by the economic crisis.

About 1,800 jobs were lost when the Maytag Plant closed in Newton, according to the New York Times.

But our president has a plan – as he always does.

During his speech, the president said that his administration is planning to establish a program that will lease federal waters in a project that is expected to produce electricity from wind, ocean currents and other renewable sources.

I know that’s right!

Holocaust Remembrance Day

untitledNot since African Slaves, have a group of people been persecuted for their race in such a hanis and ruthless way, as the Jewish people during the Holocaust of World War 2. For Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Miseducated Negro honors the brave and courageous survivors of the Holocaust – in addition to those who lost their lives in senseless murder and genocide.

It strikes me as strange that when doing a search on the front pages of major newspapers – I was unable to find anything right away that gave respect and observation to such a triumphant day. Just the same, the Miseducated Negro remembers the many that fought along with the few for the right to be who they were born to be.

Much respect to a brave and noble people with a rich heritage.

Bruised but never broken.

Harlem Renaissance Timeline – Black Writers 1920-1930

Harlem Renaissance Timeline Introduction (Listen here first)

Some of my favorite memories growing up were of immersing myself in the great books of the Harlem Renaissance. My grandmother was a teacher of sorts, and she monitored what I read – then she would make me write reviews on the books. The Harlem Renaissance was a great time for blacks in all areas of fine art. Fashion, music, theater, and literature, made the Renaissance a great movement in black history. Now, some of my favorite contemporary writers recall as their favorite writers: Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, and Zora Neale Hurston - my particular favorite.

These were a group of talented individuals with a vision that helped shape the literary world. Remember: There would be no Nikki GiovanniToni Morrison, or Alice Walker without Langston, Zora, and Countee.

Dont forget to hear my audio introduction to the timeline on Dipity. Here is a link to the timeline.

Obama Tax

51epaq7ct1l_bo2204203200_pisitb-sticker-arrow-clicktopright35-76_aa240_sh20_ou01_President Barack Obama’s tax information just came out yesterday. Already there seems to be controversy surrounding the amount of money that the Obamas made and the amount of money that they paid back. Here’s the thing… At least he paid his taxes. If he hadn’t paid his taxes there would be a problem. So Barack Obama didn’t grow up rich – we know that. But he didn’t grow up poor either. His wife is another story. She grew up on the Southside of Chicago, and I would put her project upbringing against anybody’s. The fact that she made it out successfully – and then turned around and married a president, says enough.

President Obama – to the Georgetownians

US Obama PiracyPresident Barack Obama warned the American citizens that a tough road lay ahead, but his optimism came in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

And he guarantees a rainbow – so to speak.

Today, President Barack Obama spoke at Georgetown University, where he said that each decision made on the behalf of the American people is in their best interest.

Okay, so we’ve heard this before.

I know.

But at least he is keeping us in the loop with his regular statements, appearances, and addresses.

I am a nosy person – that’s a given.
