Madea Goes to Jail – A Film Review

madea_goes_to_jail-31Tyler Perry does a great job at making you think. All of his films make you think because they are from our perspective. The issues are our issues, and the stories are our stories. Madea goes to Jail is no different – because we all know, she can’t stay out of jail anyway.ph_madea11

The jury is still out for me, as to whether it is a good thing, or a band thing, that blacks unite in large multitudes to go to his films, but neglect to do the same in educating themselves in the ways of politics.

Maybe that was a generalization.

Even if it was, I still say that it may have some merit.

Madea goes to Jail brings together all of the usual suspects: Cora, Mr. Brown, Bryan, Uncle Joe, and of course, Mabel Simmons, known to the general population as Madea. The film also stars Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher), Viola Davis (Doubt), and Keisha Knight Pulliam (The Cosby Show) who plays a drug-addicted prostitute.

Viola and Taraji slighted at the Academy Awards

spread_py5b10Viola Davis and Taraji Henson both looked absolutely glowing at the 81st Annual Academy Awards (Oscars). Both were nominated for best supporting-actress in a motion picture. Henson for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Davis for Doubt. Davis was only on screen briefly, but stole the entire movie with her eerie acting pressence  as she put true emotion and feeling into her very small role. As a side note, Davis’ days of small roles are over.

Henson delivered a matriarchial performance as the black mother to a white Brad Pitt’s Benjamin Button. She loved him when no one else did, as most black women do black men. It was her performance that left a positive impression on moviegoers and critics that may have been harder on the film as a whole.

Obama Chimp Cartoon

stimulusbill2   The New York Post posted a comic by Sean Delonas that is causing quite the controversy. Could it be that the artist is    portraying President Barack Obama as a monkey being shot by two police officers with a bubble that reads, “They’ll have  to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.” Wow! This is sooo not kosher. In fact, blogs and media reels are  spinning with the possible message that the artist may or may not have been trying to project.

And anytime you see that permed black hair waving in midair, you know that Rev. Al Sharpton is not far behind – and he  was maaaaad!

NAACP Turns 100

Happy birthday to you…happy birthday to you…happy birthday!

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People turned 100 yesterday. Today, they are 100 and one day. Congratulations are in order, for if it not for the NAACP and the activists that supported the organization, sites like this one would not be possible. People like you and me, would not be possible.

Started on the 100th birthday of Abraham Lincoln, by W.E.B. Dubois, the NAACP is a multiracial organization that sought to put an end to the days of Jim Crow and segregation. It was after death, destruction, and many setbacks, the organization became successful. It is here that Thurgood Marshall went to for support in winning the great landmark case, Brown v. The Board of Education.

Fashion Designers On Michelle Obama – I don’t think the inaugural gown was flattering in any way

spread_riztah A story was published in the New York Times today about Michelle Obama’s secret fashion weapon – her supposed stylist, Ikram Goldman. Behind the First Lady, a Shadow Stylist was written by Fashion critic Cathy Horyn and Eric Wilson.

The story goes on to talk about designer’s frustrations with the feminine Obama and her shadow stylist. Already, Michelle has been compared to Jackie Kennedy in style and first lady poise, but the main difference some say, is the choice in designers. But now as, the New York Times says, Ikram, who’s Chicago boutique is called, Ikram has been advising and assembling looks for Michelle since the beginning of her husband’s campaign. Inaugural Post

It is so important that we become familiar with every political device there is, because politics is what controls us. Everything is politics from what you will wear, to the people you decide to date, we all do things based on our own decisions.

For this my inaugural post, I think it important to state the purpose of this blog. The Miseducated Negro is here to inform, empower and entertain the black college student about Politics and Race in America. More importantly, the singular mission is to have you leave this site knowing more than when you came.

We already know that anything is possible (Thanks Mr. President) now we have to educate ourselves like he did – by learning as much as possible.
